Not long ago, most people could walk into their bank and get a document notarized on the spot. That's not as simple anymore.
Banks have been closing branches for years as more banking moves online. At the branches that are still open, a notary isn't always on staff that day. Some only help their own customers, and some only notarize certain kinds of paperwork.
The need for notaries didn't go away. The easy access did. More than one client has told me lately that finding a notary used to be easy, and now it takes a lot of phone calls.
Where to look
Your bank or credit union
Call ahead before you go. Ask if a notary is in that day, whether they help non-customers, and whether they'll notarize your type of document.
An online notary
Meet with me by live video from anywhere in the United States. Bring a photo ID, Social Security number, and US credit history. Sessions start at $25, with no travel fee.
A mobile notary
I come to you from Brimfield, at home, work, a hospital, or a care facility. A travel fee based on distance holds your appointment, plus $5 per notarial act.
