How Does Online Notarization Work?

What to expect, step by step

Book and upload

Pick a time that works for you and upload your document as a PDF. Please don't sign it yet. I'll look over your request and confirm by email.

Watch for your session link

Your secure link comes by email from jessica@kitchentablenotary.com. If you don't see it, please check your spam folder. Each signer gets their own link.

Confirm your identity

At the start of the session, you'll scan your photo ID and answer a few short questions drawn from public records. Illinois requires this check for online notarizations.

Sign and download

We review your document together on video. You sign electronically, I add my electronic seal, and you can download the finished document right away.

What you'll need

Before your session, please have these ready:

  • Your document as a PDF, not yet signed

  • A current, unexpired government-issued photo ID. A US driver's license, state ID, or US passport works best for the identity check.

  • A computer, tablet, or phone with a camera and microphone

  • A steady internet connection and a quiet, well-lit spot

If someone else is signing too, each person needs their own ID and gets their own session link.

Where you can join

You can join from Illinois or anywhere else in the United States. If you're outside the US, I can help when your document relates to a US court, agency, property, or transaction. I'm always located in Illinois during your session, as Illinois law requires.
